Abstract:
Complicate preparing procedure of ultrahigh carbon steels (UHCSs) greatly limited their practical application in industry. In the course of searching a simple method for the preparation of the ultrahigh carbon steels, we found a fully fine pearlite microstructure formed in the Al-added steel with high carbon content. Our results proved that the steel can be directly spheroidized into uniformly distributed fine carbides, and that the steel with fine spherodized carbides showed high tensile strength of 1010 MPa and high yielding strength of 650 MPa, together with good elongation of 12.8%.
