Abstract:
The performance of Ni-based catalysts was studied on an interesting mixture of SiO2 and MgO fabricated via coprecipitation (CP) in methane decomposition. The supported Ni catalysts on the SiO2.MgO was synthesized via various preparation methods, and an effective method called impregnation was used via EDTA (EIM(Ni)-CP) with different EDTA/Ni molar ratios. The analytical procedures were performed, including XRD, BET, FT-IR, TG-DTA, SEM, H2-TPR, TPO, and Raman. The catalysts depicted the BET ranging from 26.6 to 212.7 m2 g- 1. The EIM(Ni)CP method with ED/Ni = 1:1 exhibited high CH4 conversion, 71% acquired during 600 min at 575 omicron C. The highest amount of conversion at the beginning and end of the reaction did not change concerning smaller crystal size (7.8 nm), strengthening metal-support interaction with a lower reduction degree, and more resistance toward sintering. In addition, ordered carbon filaments with better crystallinity were produced on the surface of the EIM(Ni)-CP sample.
