Abstract:

Experiments on six different I-section composite shear walls with double steel plates were carried out under cyclic loading. The flanges of all specimens were equal thickness double plate three-opening rectangular steel tubular walls. Specimens were divided into two groups according to the thickness of double steel plates: each group combines one specimen with two web openings, one specimen with three web openings and one bottom strengthened specimen with three web openings. Each specimen adopts the scale of 1/5 and the shear span ratio of 1.5. The failure characteristics, load-bearing capacity, ductility, energy dissipation capacity and stiffness degradation process of the specimens were analyzed. Test results show that the flange of I-section composite shear walls with double steel plates forms inclined tension strips divided by the opening under cyclic loads. The flange and the web show a good ductility capacity and seismic behavior. The steel plate thickness, numbers of the opening and the bottom strengthening construction measures have obvious effects on the seismic behavior of the wall. Matching the strengths of the flanges and the web by designing those parameters properly and adopting the effective construction measures are the key measures to make sure that the bending and shear performance of the shear wall can be reached simultaneously, as well as the ductility yielding mechanism.
