Abstract:

The RC shear wall with bi-directional single layer of steel bars is applicable for multistory residence building. In order to study the effects of low steel ratio, boundary element and anchorage type of horizontal reinforcing bars on seismic performance of high-rise RC shear walls with bi-directional single layer of steel bars, as well as compare its seismic performance with masonry shear wall, quasi-static cyclic loading tests on four 2.0 shear-span ratio high-rise shear wall specimens were carried out. Four high-rise shear walls included three RC shear walls with different design parameters and one masonry shear wall made of confined shale bricks. The load-carrying capacity, ductility, stiffness variation, hysteretic behavior, energy dissipation and failure phenomena of each shear wall with different design parameters were compared. Based on the experimental study, the mechanical model and equations for calculating load-carrying capacity were proposed. The calculating results of the load-carrying capacity agreed well with the experimental results. The tests show that the seismic performance of high-rise RC shear walls with bi-directional single layer of steel bars surpasses the masonry shear wall, demonstrating the suitability of such shear wall for use in seismic multistory buildings in seismic regions.
