Abstract:

In order to inhibit asphalt pavements reflecting crack, increase pavements cycle life, prevent rutting and decrease water damage, application research of four kinds of geosynthetics such as glass-fibre geotextile, polyester-fibre geotextile, big-hole geogrid and small-hole geogrid used in asphalt pavement has been done. The experiments include double-courses dynamic stability test, refined direct shear test, tension test and fatigue test. The results indicate that all four kinds of geosynthetics can improve anti-rutting capacity, but considering construction easiness and performance stability, geotextile should be recommended with priority. And all four kinds of geosynthetics can effectively inhibit pavement fatigue crack and geotextile works better than geogrid. From qualitative analysis of material structure, geotextiles soaked asphalt can play the role of waterproofing membrane and effectively reduce the infiltration of water.
