Abstract:
A multi-walled boron nitride nanotubes were prepared by the magnesiothermic reaction at 1500-1600C under the ammonia gas flow, which employed B2O3 and Mg powders as raw materials and reductant respectively. The as synthesized BN nanotubes show a uniform diameter of around 50 nm and a length of 10-30m. The smooth surface and open-ends of BN nanotubes were observed by SEM and HRTEM microscopy. XRD, EDS and SAED confirmed that the compositions of the nanotubes were mainly hexagonal BN.
