Abstract:

The WB powder was firstly prepared by the Luoyang Golden Egret Cemented Carbide Tool Co., Ltd using a unique technology. A new type of thermal spray feedstock reinforced with WB powder was developed. The cermet coatings were fabricated by high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying and characterized on the phase constitution, microstructure and mechanical properties. The WB-reinforced coating was compared with the WC-based coating at the same preparation and testing conditions. It was found that the hardness and wear resistance of the WB-reinforced cermet coating are higher than those of the WC-based coating. By analyzing the failure behavior of the coatings, the effects of WB and the related mechanisms are proposed for the WB-reinforced cermet coating. The WB-containing powders and cermet coatings are promising in applications in the fields of hard materials and powder metallurgy.
