Abstract:
In this paper, shaking table tests of smart base isolation system consisting of rubber bearing and MR damper were conducted under ground motion component. The running conditions of each part and the control algorithms including IOC (Instantaneous Optimum Control) method are introduced. Experimental results of the model building under different types of inputs were compared here. The results indicate that the smart isolation system with MR damper providing adjustable damping forces can supply effective control for the response of superstructure under earthquake ground motion of different magnitudes. That overcomes the shortcoming that optimal central extent of rubber bearing isolation system is narrow. Compared with RB system, the smart system can effectively reduce both acceleration of superstructure and displacement of isolation layer. © 2007 EUCENTRE. All rights reserved.
