Abstract:
Nano-structured TiO(2), Ag-TiO(2) and Ce-TiO(2), thin film-coated on glass spring, was prepared by sol-gel method at room temperature. In a batch reactor using TiO(2) photocatalyst, toluene, p-xylene and acetone (TPA) were chosen as the typical VOCs for photo-catalytic degradation. The effects of doped Ag/Ce ions, initial TPA concentration, gas temperature, photo-catalyst amount and hydrogen peroxide on TPA decomposition were investigated. The results indicated that H(2)O(2), could promote the activation of catalyst. The conversions of TPA in the TiO(2)/UV, Ag-TiO(2)/UV, CeTiO(2)/UV processes were increased with the irradiation time and the degradation character of photo-catalyst was in the order of Ce-TiO(2)>Ag-TiO(2)>TiO(2). Photo-catalytic degradation efficiency of TPA decreased with increasing initial concentration, while it increased with increasing the amounts of TiO(2). The best temperature was 45 degrees C, with highest photo-degradation efficiency. The reaction rate constant (k) of TPA was k(Acetone)>k(Toluene)>k(p-xylene). Among them, acetone was easiest to be destructed.
