Abstract:
This research examines the energy consumption and pollution emission of civil vehicles in Beijing during the period from 2008 to 2020. The paper studies the phenomenon of interest with the Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning System with two different scenarios: the continuation of current policies on fuel consumption and pollutant emission, versus the new and stricter fuel consumption standard and pollutant emission regulations. With the assumption that the number of civil vehicles will increase from 3.14 million in 2008 to 7 million in 2020, the study reached the conclusion that under the new policies on fuel consumption and pollutant emission the energy consumption by civil vehicles in 2020 will be 240% of that in 2008, and the emission of major air pollutant will increase significantly.
