Abstract:
For a space with a large ratio of horizontal length to height, field modeling or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) should be applied for predicting fire-induced airflow in building. A terminal hall of 366 in wide with a curvilinear ceiling is considered in this paper. The CFD.model based on Reynolds Averaging Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with k-epsilon equations for turbulence is adopted. Fire is taken as a volumetric heat source(VHS) and buoyancy effects are included in equations for the vertical momentum and turbulent parameters. Body-Fitted Co-ordinate (BFC) transformation technique is also employed to fit the irregular enclosure ceiling. The airflow velocity, pressure and temperature are predicted under different fire scenarios. The phenomena of ceiling jet, air entrainment and temperature distribution in this large space are discussed. Results show that smoke filling processes can be described by using these numerical results.
