Abstract:

The 1st mode shape of a site is usually applied as the deformation mode of the soil when conducting the seismic response and pushover analyses of underground structures. However, the higher mode of the site can also be excited under earthquake motions. The analysis results would be inaccuracy without the effects caused by the higher mode shape of the site. In the study, the seismic site deformation and seismic response of the tunnel influenced by the 2nd mode shape of the site were investigated, based on results of 1-g shaking table model tests of the free-field soil and tunnel. Results show that the influence ratio of the 2nd mode shape on the seismic site deformation mode was within 20%. But it could change the regional deformation mode of the soil along the elevation, which could notably influence the seismic responses of underground structures buried in the regions. More attention should be paid for the effects caused by the 2nd mode shape of site. © 2022 Science Press. All rights reserved.
