Abstract:
The increasing tendency toward consumerism on college campuses has emphasized the need for sustainable consumption among college students. Measuring students' sustainable consumption behavior using the ecological footprint of their campus-life consumption, we empirically examine how educational support influences students' sustainable consumption decisions. The results reveal that college students' sustainable consumption still needs to be improved. Educational support not only directly affects sustainable consumption intention but also generates a chain mediation effect of subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, attitude, and behavioral intention. However, educational support does not seem to facilitate the transformation of consumption intention into consumption behavior, showing inconsistency between awareness and behavior or the "easier to know than to do"phenomenon. This study provides insight on strengthening sustainable consumption education, converting students' knowledge of sustainable consumption into action, and guiding the whole society toward sustainable consumption. © 2023 ACM.
