Abstract:

To improve the performances of solder, rare elements Nd and Y were added into Mg-Al-Zn based alloy. The effects of elements addition on the properties and the microstructure of solder and the joint were investigated. The microstructure, the phase compositions and element components were analyzed by SEM, EDS and XRD, and the shearing strength of joint were measured by MTS. The spreading and filling performances of the solder were also measured. The results indicated that the microstructure of the solder were improved by the addition of rare earth elements Nd and Y. The spreading performace of the solders containing Nd was better than Y, and the highest value of the spreading area reached 129.3 mm2. However, the performance of joints containing Y was higher than that of containing Nd. Joining under the conditions of Ultrasonic time 2s and welding space 0.15 mm, the shearing strength of the soldered joints was 79.4MPa especially with 0.47%Y addition.
