Abstract:

The damage characteristics and shapes of bridges, especially bridges in mountainous area were summarized through investigating the seismic damage of bridges in strong earthquake areas of Wenchuan earthquake in 2008. The damage reasons were primarily explained. Some advices were presented for seismic assessment and retrofit of bridges in Wenchuan earthquake area. At the same time, some reasonable advices for future seismic design of bridges, especially bridges in mountainous area were presented.
