Abstract:
The SiO2/VAc-MMA-AA core-shell composite latex was prepared by coating silica sol with polyvinyl acetate-acylate copolymer. Then the core-shell composite emulsion was introduced into poplar wood materials to form an inorganic/organic core-shell composite wood. The structure of the core-shell composite latex and the modified wood were investigated by TEM and FT-IR. TG measurement of the modified wood showed that the temperature of thermal degradation of the modified wood was higher than that of the primal wood. The limited oxygen index of the modified wood with 45% WPG was 40.1%. Compared with that of primal poplar wood, the mechanical properties of composite wood were greatly improved.
