Abstract:
The acoustic properties of soil greatly affect the propagation of guided waves in buried pipelines. In order to ascertain the acoustic properties of soil, guided are detection experiments using a typical wave guide (a steel rod) are con ducted in air and in soil. Based on the established attenuation characteristics of elastic waves, the attenuation curve for the L (0,1) mode is obtained. By comparing the experimental attenuation curve with theoretical curves, the acoustic properties of soil (velocities of longitude waves and transverse waves) are determined. The results are used to analyze guided waves propagating in a buried pipeline. The soil has a great influence on the propagation of guided waves, and two new axisymmetric modes-α1 and α1 occur at low frequencies.
