Abstract:

This paper researched the impact of left shoulder width on driving behavior. In this study, virtual driving scenarios of different left shoulder widths were calibrated using virtual driving simulation technology, and driving process data (speed, acceleration, vehicle location, and lateral displacement) were collected using the supporting data acquisition system. First, the influence of the left shoulder on driving indicators was analyzed. Then the indicators which were sensitive to the changes of left shoulder width were selected for evaluating the trends. According to the analysis of the collected data, the standard deviation of speed and lateral displacement were determined to analyze the characteristics of the left shoulder width impact on driving behavior. © 2012 American Society of Civil Engineering.
