Abstract:
A new method using ultrasonic tissue characterization to monitor microwave coagulation therapy was proposed. The fresh pig livers were heated by microwave ablation generator. Ultrasonic echo signals of the pig liver in different temperature were sampled and processed. Experimental results show that the integral value of backscattered ultrasound increases with the temperature and it is possible using ultrasonic tissue characterization to monitor microwave coagulation therapy in real time. © 2009 Springer-Verlag.
