Abstract:
X-ray method was used in this study to determine the distribution of residual stresses in eight various wheels. The effects of wheel shape and machining processes on residual stress distribution were analyzed. Measuring points were arranged along a certain radial direction of each wheel. The radial and circumferential residual stress at each measuring point was measured by X-ray residual stress instrumentation. The experimental results show that the 8 wheels have the similar trend of residual stress distribution. Compared with the machining surface, the level of compressive residual stress of the shot-peening surface is obviously higher. As a whole, wheels with S-shaped spokes have the excellent distribution of residual stresses.
