Abstract:
Based on a meso mechanical analysis model of concrete material, a meso numerical approach is developed to investigate the nonlinear mechanical properties of reinforced concrete members. The damage process and the macro mechanical properties of a reinforced concrete column under axial compression are simulated by the proposed methodology in this study. The meso-scale simulation results are compared with those of macro-scale mechanical analysis and the experimental observations. The investigation results indicate that (1) at meso-level, the failure modes and the macro mechanical properties of the reinforced concrete column obtained from the meso element equivalent model agree well with the experimental observations, which demonstrate the effectiveness and correctness of the established meso-mechanical approach; (2) Compared to the macro-scale model, the meso mechanical model considering the heterogeneity of concrete, could reveal the damage process and failure modes of reinforced concrete column more realistic, and the meso numerical results are more consistent with the experimental results.
