Abstract:

Although the horizontal force of an earthquake ground motion is sufficiently reduced by a base-isolated system with lead rubber bearings, the vertical force is transmitted directly. Owing to the good properties of high capacity and variable stiffness of the disk spring, the combined 3-dimensional isolated bearing (3DIB) composed of lead rubber bearing (LRB) and combined disk spring bearing (DSB) is designed and proposed in this paper. Performance test results indicated that 3DIB had the similar horizontal features of LRB, and the similar vertical features of DSB. Shaking table tests of the 1/2 scale fixed-base model and the 3DIB base-isolated model were compared to confirm the validity of the 3DIB. The experimental results declare that the 3DIB system can decrease more than 50% of the responses of the fix-base model at the same case, and 3DIB can isolate not only the horizontal earthquakes but also the vertical earthquakes.
