Abstract:

In this paper, the progress on improving physical properties of functional materials by laser irradiation is reported and discussed. Sintered with a CO2 laser, a novel Ta2O5-based ceramics with maximum κ of 450 can be obtained at ambient conditions. The electrical conductivity of PCDF induced by excimer laser irradiation was found to increase from 10-13.Ω-1·cm-1 to 10 -4Ω-1·cm-1. Significant improvement in the magneto transport properties of La0.67Ca 0.33MnO3 thin film irradiated by CO2 laser in air can be obtained. Irradiated with a CO2 laser, the polarization and piezoelectric constants d15 of Ba0.5Sr 1.5Na0.6K0.4Nb5O15 ceramic was found to increase to 120 pC/N. Based upon the characterization of the samples, the phase, micro-structure, and the mechanism of property modification in laser irradiated samples were analyzed.
