Abstract:

In order to provide mobile video on demand services on BREW (Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless) platform, a relatively integral streaming media system solution which can be deployed on CDMA2000 1X network, is presented. The solution consists of three independent parts: Streaming media creator, streaming server, and streaming client. Video source data is compressed by H.264 codec, and audio source date is compressed by using PureVoice coding technology offered by BREW platform. The proposed system can provide on-demand service of media contents. And four VCR (Video Cassette Recording) functionalities, including play, pause, fast-forward, and stop, are well supported. Application experiments on Unicom CDMA2000 1X network show that the proposed solution can provide vivid and fluent multimedia contents at lower bandwidth (70 kb/s) with relative high video frame rate, which can be up to 8 fps, for the wireless mobile subscribers.
